Blog Post #5

1. Describe your approach to your argument of fact

  • i.  What misconception are you clearing up?
Even though many teen pregnancies are not planned they do not end up in adoption or abortion, rather some teens take the decision to raise their baby and be a teen parent.

  • ii. What new information are you providing?
Some teens WANT to get pregnant , because their parents had them at such a young age or because their parents work long hours and the teen feels lonely.

  • iii. What unknown issues are you bringing up?
Some teens don't get the right treatment and medicines they need after getting pregnant because either their parents stop supporting them or the parents cant afford to pay for the new baby.

2. What is YOUR hypothesis: what do you want us to understand?
Not every teen has the same story , therefore we should not just assume that ALL teens get pregnant by accident and don't want their baby.

3.What Facts will convince us?

  • Teen Pregnancy in Texas will cause the size of Texas's population to double in size in the next 3 decades.
  • Many Teen Pregnancies are desired by the male partner.
  • Some teens feel lonely and want to have a baby to make themselves feel better
4. I still need many more facts , I'm not exactly sure what all I need . I probably need more statistics and percents to prove my hypothesis. I want to know how many teens keep their baby , how many have been trying to get pregnant , and how many  teens got pregnant because their partner wanted a baby.

Blog Post #4

I have recently changed my topic , partially  because I couldn't find good scholarly sources related to my first topic , therefore even though I was very passionate about my topic I had to change it. My new topic is Teen Pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is an extremely important issue and should be taken very seriously. I learned a lot about my topic. The most surprising thing I learned about my topic was that some teens get pregnant at such a young age by choice. They intended to get pregnant and are very happy that they will soon be a parent. Many people think that teens get pregnant accidentally and wished that they would have used protection, but I learned that this is not always true. Another thing I was surprised to learn about was that sometimes the male partner wants to have a baby and encourages the female partner to have a baby. These examples show that some pregnancies are by choice, but many people don't see this side of the story and just assume the couple had an intended pregnancy. I still want to learn a lot about teenage pregnancies , such as how the teen parent takes care of the baby and manages their education and work , and if they ever considered giving their baby up for adoption because they weren't ready to be parents. I plan on reading more journals and possibly some real life examples to understand what a teen actually goes through during this life changing situation. My topic is very interesting, and a few of my friends are teen parents, so this topic is very important to me.

Blog Post #3

My topic is How to Resolve Issues between Doctors and Patients so for my search I typed in "issues between Doctors and Patients”, the results consisted of many EBooks and PDF files that seemed really helpful. Then to shorten my topic words for my search I typed in "Doctors and Patients" which gave me a lot more results, including some which came up on my first search as well. I think there was a decent amount of sources for my topic; it wasn't overwhelming for me at all. Many of the PDF and Book titles made me look at my topic somewhat differently and in a more positive manner. For example for my topic I was focusing on how to resolve issues between doctors and patients rather than looking at how well and positive a relationship can actually be between a doctor and their patient. In my opinion I have a good amount of sources and will have enough information on my topic to make a good presentation. I might have to switch around a few words while searching for sources but that should not be a big problem. While searching around for sources related to my topic, I found many different point of views for my topic and it should be interesting learning about how different people maintain their relationship with their doctor and how they think others can improve their own relationship with their respectful doctor. I am looking forward to learning more about my topic and how it is effecting different people around the world today.

Blog Post #2

It was very difficult to choose a topic knowing that I will have to work with this topic for the entire semester. I chose something that I could relate to and have heard a lot about. My topic is how to resolve issues between doctors and patients as well as improving legal hospital systems. Doctors are human and can make mistakes as well, but every doctor tries their best to save their patient but unfortunately that does not always happen and in my opinion it is not necessary to always threaten the doctor with a law suit.

Some questions that I came up with are:
1) How can doctors prevent law suits against themselves?
2) How can we improve legal hospital systems?
3) Why is it important for doctors to maintain a good relationship with their patients?
4) Is there a better way than a lawsuit to resolve a dispute or issue between a doctor and a patient?
5) What are some benefits of settling disputes and issues between doctors and patients without the help of the court and the threat of a law suit?

**The most important questions for my topic are numbers 1,4 and 5 because they can actually help find a solution to my topic and help prevent doctors from having to face a lawsuit when all they were trying to do was their job. Numbers 2 and 3 are less important because they won’t really help resolve the problem, rather they will help reach to a conclusion and will help me conduct my research.

My topic is important because there are hospitals located around the world and having an issue between a doctor and a patient is not a local thing it happens all around the world. Doctors work with the fear of getting threatened by a law suit every day; they have to worry about making a mistake that can harm their patient which can be a big burden on a person while they are working. In my family we have a lot of doctors and a few nurses therefore I have heard of many personal experiences that my family members have had to face on a daily basis. This topic should concern everyone because everyone gets sick and then needs a doctor to tend to them. A law suit not only affects a doctor's career but it affects the person that is standing against the doctor as well because law suits can me mentally and physically exhausting.

I am trying to learn about resolving issues between doctors and patients because I want to know which is a better route to take , going through with a law suit or trying to resolve matters outside of court, in order to get justice and find a good solution to the problem that caused the law suit to take place.

Blog Post #1

My name is Maryam Ali and I am from Houston, Texas. I am currently a freshman at West Texas A&M University. As of now my major is undeclared, but my two final choices are Health Administration or Finance/Accounting. I don't have a favorite subject, but even though I hate math I am good at it and that is the reason why I considered Accounting as one of my final major choices. In my free time I really enjoy spending time with my family, especially my two year old brother because he is the only brother I have. I love listening to music, I don't have a favorite type of music like most people, I listen to almost every kind of music. My favorite author is Simone Elkeles mainly because she only writes love stories. I have read every book she has written and I follow her blog. Some issues I am passionate about are high school dropout rates, abortion, bullying, and same sex marriage. Some of these issues are very controversial but I believe that they are worth talking about and discussing. I would like to learn more about international issues that we might not here on a daily basis in America. As a human I believe it is our responsibility to learn about issues that people outside of the United States have to face such as: no clean water, no electricity, and Education. I plan on learning a lot this semester about research and social issues and how to discuss them with a general audience without offending anyone.
