Blog Post #2

It was very difficult to choose a topic knowing that I will have to work with this topic for the entire semester. I chose something that I could relate to and have heard a lot about. My topic is how to resolve issues between doctors and patients as well as improving legal hospital systems. Doctors are human and can make mistakes as well, but every doctor tries their best to save their patient but unfortunately that does not always happen and in my opinion it is not necessary to always threaten the doctor with a law suit.

Some questions that I came up with are:
1) How can doctors prevent law suits against themselves?
2) How can we improve legal hospital systems?
3) Why is it important for doctors to maintain a good relationship with their patients?
4) Is there a better way than a lawsuit to resolve a dispute or issue between a doctor and a patient?
5) What are some benefits of settling disputes and issues between doctors and patients without the help of the court and the threat of a law suit?

**The most important questions for my topic are numbers 1,4 and 5 because they can actually help find a solution to my topic and help prevent doctors from having to face a lawsuit when all they were trying to do was their job. Numbers 2 and 3 are less important because they won’t really help resolve the problem, rather they will help reach to a conclusion and will help me conduct my research.

My topic is important because there are hospitals located around the world and having an issue between a doctor and a patient is not a local thing it happens all around the world. Doctors work with the fear of getting threatened by a law suit every day; they have to worry about making a mistake that can harm their patient which can be a big burden on a person while they are working. In my family we have a lot of doctors and a few nurses therefore I have heard of many personal experiences that my family members have had to face on a daily basis. This topic should concern everyone because everyone gets sick and then needs a doctor to tend to them. A law suit not only affects a doctor's career but it affects the person that is standing against the doctor as well because law suits can me mentally and physically exhausting.

I am trying to learn about resolving issues between doctors and patients because I want to know which is a better route to take , going through with a law suit or trying to resolve matters outside of court, in order to get justice and find a good solution to the problem that caused the law suit to take place.

My name is Maryam Ali and I am from Houston, Texas. I am currently a freshman at West Texas A&M University. As of now my major is undeclared, but my two final choices are Health Administration or Finance/Accounting. I don't have a favorite subject, but even though I hate math I am good at it and that is the reason why I considered Accounting as one of my final major choices. In my free time I really enjoy spending time with my family, especially my two year old brother because he is the only brother I have. I love listening to music, I don't have a favorite type of music like most people, I listen to almost every kind of music. My favorite author is Simone Elkeles mainly because she only writes love stories. I have read every book she has written and I follow her blog. Some issues I am passionate about are high school dropout rates, abortion, bullying, and same sex marriage. Some of these issues are very controversial but I believe that they are worth talking about and discussing. I would like to learn more about international issues that we might not here on a daily basis in America. As a human I believe it is our responsibility to learn about issues that people outside of the United States have to face such as: no clean water, no electricity, and Education. I plan on learning a lot this semester about research and social issues and how to discuss them with a general audience without offending anyone.
